My Original Review of the old name book

Wow, what can I say, I loved this book, has a great story, about fallen angels, and a chosen one that comes from the bloodlines of Archangel Michael. It’s quite different than any other fallen angel books I had read. Its fast paced and easy to read. I read the Re-edited version, and it’s very well done, very few minor mistakes that really don’t matter is all I seen. I was caught up in the story of Erin and Angelo, that I didn’t care anyway.
It’s not all about them, there is a great story here, so it’s got the romance too, but it’s not just about the romance, which I found refreshing. The best part in a way, not huge cliffhanger, doesn’t end like you’re in the middle of a chapter, I really hate when authors do that, so I loved that. I am still ready and anxious to read the next one, but in a way that I don’t feel forced to, to see what happens in the climax that ended before done. You know what I mean; we don’t have that torture here.

I found the romance between Angelo and Erin very steamy, when they were not fighting their feelings for each other. I didn’t love Erin right away, but she grew on me, and thinking about what she had been through, I could not really blame her for anything she did.

I will say, in the beginning there is a part when Angelo was looking for the chosen one, when he found her many Greats-grand-dad, he mentioned the violet eyes (eyes that are the same as Erin) then, that this man was not really the father to the baby that carries the “chosen” ones line (his wife). I thought there had to be a mistake, but it gets explained so when you get to that, just keep reading, it all gets explained and makes sense.

I like how this story takes place over time, not just Angelo trying to find the chosen one over time, but when he finds her, Erin, the time from then, to the end, is at least several months I believe. Meaning it made it more believable in this world, her being trained, and their attraction turns to love, not just because of the “link” they have. (they are meant to be together, like soul mates) They don’t just instantly fall into bed, but they did want too, lol, but that’s ok, it was fun to read, and pulls you into the story.

I won’t say more on this just that, it’s a great book, written very well. I really look forward to the next 2 books, called Risen and Final Redemption (Chosen Series) I hope I get a chance to review these for Christine, they are defiantly books I want to read.  In this first book at least, I am happy to see there isn’t your usual “love triangle” I mean there is a small part that happens with someone else, after Angelo keeps pushing Erin away, but there never was a threat of him losing her, as their “link” is strong.

I only have one thing to say that I don’t like, it’s the cover. I think a better done cover would help a lot. But give it a chance, I highly recommend this book. It’s not YA either, more New Adult (Erin is just turning 21, lives on her own)  There is some sexual content and some fighting type violence, 17 up should be ok, and adults will enjoy this too.

5 out of 5 stars for my rating.

Here are a few teasers for you below to enjoy.

“You will find her,” he gasped. “She is in my blood.” The boy coughed and sucked in one last sharp breath. As that breath hissed out between his lips, his head lolled to the side. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth and dropped onto the already bloody grass. He was gone.Angelo sat back on his haunches. “It’s a girl?” he mused out loud.  A girl was going to save his kind, as well as the human race. He stared down at the boy.  Angelo’s hair was pulled back tightly and secured at the nape of his neck. It was hard to tell, but it looked to be black as coal. The flashing lights seemed to make it shimmer. His cheekbones were high and hidden beneath dark stubble. Normally, she wouldn’t have found that attractive, but for some reason, it was immensely appealing at that moment. Dark eyebrows sat neatly above light gray eyes. Huh? she thought. She could have sworn they were dark gray earlier, but as she looked at them again, they seemed to grow lighter before her eyes. They were the exact shade of a new nickel. His eyes were fringed by thick black lashes, the type of lashes most women dreamed about having. Damn, he’s flawless.

Excerpt

Erin could see him standing across the street, looking dashing in a tuxedo and a broad smile. He held out his hand, beckoning her. She stepped down off the curb but something caught her eye. Looking down, she saw she was wearing a beautiful red satin gown that shimmered beautifully in the pale street light. The strapless bodice fit snugly, pushing up her ample chest, while the bottom fanned out gracefully in waves. On her feet was a pair of matching red heels with thin straps and sparkling rhinestones. Never before had she felt so beautiful.
She went into his arms with ease and he swept her along the street, dancing and twirling around to softly lilting music. He held her close, her body fitting to his easily. She could feel his heart beating steadily against hers. The same smell from earlier seemed so much stronger than before. His eyes were such a light shade of gray, they were almost transparent. Dense fog swirled around their legs as they twirled and moved as one.
Then something changed and they were no longer dancing. She was standing in the middle of the street alone, wearing her pajamas. Somewhere a streetlight began to flicker eerily. The light made the fog appear bluish white and very sinister. Erin looked around, frantically searching for Angelo. She found him standing at the entrance of the fairgrounds. He no longer wore the tux. Even in the darkness she could see his eyes were no longer shimmering silver but dark gray bordering on black. His hair was pulled back tightly and his once beautiful face had turned stone cold and dangerous. He wore a black t-shirt tucked neatly into a pair of black cargo pants. The pants resembled the style that she’d seen paramedics wearing. The bottoms of the pants were tucked tightly into a pair of snugly laced, slightly worn, combat boots. Something glistened in his hand. It appeared to be a long blade that glistened in the dim light. Erin began to slowly back away but he moved toward her. She could see he was saying something but couldn’t make out the words.
When she blinked they were no longer standing in the middle of the street but in the center of a meadow surrounded by trees. The loud sound of beating wings came from somewhere behind her.  Briefly she thought of a horror movie where everything was in slow motion. She tried to run but her feet felt as if they were encased in concrete. Slowly she turned. The sound of beating wings stirred the cold night air around her. When she looked up, huge black wings angled toward her. She tried to scream but the smell of sulfur was suffocating. Angry red eyes glared down at her and pain suddenly sliced through her body.
She tried frantically to get away, silently willing her feet to move. She had to get away from the wings and the blinding pain but the pain only intensified with each movement. Erin could smell something foul over the stinging scent of sulfur and she realized it was the unmistakable smell of burning flesh. She looked down and realized it was her flesh that was burning. She screamed as her sweats began to melt to her legs.
“Someone, help me!” she screeched and the answer she received was an angry hiss.
Erin sagged to the ground in pain as the flames raged over her lower body; she could hear the harsh sound of metal clanging against metal. Another shrill hiss and screech sliced through the night and soon the flapping noise was gone. Everything was cast into silence.

There was a dull roar in her ears, but the pain was slowly beginning to subside. Erin felt herself being lifted by a pair of strong arms. She looked up into the face of the body that cradled her gently.  Angelo’s face was tight with rage as the muscles in his jaw clenched and unclenched.
“What happened?” Erin muttered.
“Do not worry about it now,” Angelo said in perfect English.
“Hey what happen to your accent?” Erin said sleepily. She took a deep breath. It was the same scent from his hooded sweat shirt, covering her like a warm blanket, caressing her gently.
“There are a lot of things you do not know, and a lot of things you are about to learn,” he answered softly. He looked down and, in her groggy state, she noticed that his eyes were shifting colors again. They were getting lighter.
“I can’t... keep my... eyes open,” she whispered.
“Don’t fight it,” he said softly. Without another thought, Erin’s eyes slipped closed.

Angie smiled back at Sable and for the first time in a long time she felt normal.  He was the closest thing to a father figure she’d ever known.  He was a towering six foot eight with arms as big and thick as a tree.  Though he was over six centuries old he only appeared to be in his late thirties early forties.  His eyes were dark brown, reminding her of a puppy.  His head was clean shaven and he sported a flame tattoo starting on the top and fanning out down his neck, disappearing beneath his orange shirt. It had been far too long since she’d seen him and seeing him now made her homesick, or the closest she’d ever been to that feeling.

They talked for hours and when Angie looked at her watch, it said one in the morning.  “Hey did you check in with the boys?”  She asked Erin.
“No I guess I forgot.”
“Ah hell, they are going to be furious,” she said rolling her eyes.
“Come to think of it I haven’t heard anything from them,” Erin said.
A tingle of worry raced up Angie’s spine.  She opened her mind and tried to connect with Blaze, but there was nothing.
Blaze, damn it, where are you?  She waited for several long moments but there came no response.
“I can’t reach Blaze.  Can you get Angelo?”
Erin pushed out with her mind and tried to reach Angelo but got nothing but darkness.  She tried to sense him but only got a feeling of cold.  Her eyes snapped to Angie’s.
“Something’s wrong.  I can’t reach him nor can I sense him.”
Panic began to clutch at Angie’s chest as she reached out for Blaze again.  She took a deep breath.  “There has to be a logical explanation, right?  We’re on the other side of the continent so it would be hard for us to sense them very strongly.”
Erin shook her head.  “It’s not like Angelo to not answer me.”
Angie knew something was wrong but she didn’t want to accept it.  She pushed her mind out once more and searched for Blaze.  When there was nothing she tried Josh and then Eli.  Suddenly a sharp pain ripped through her side.  She doubled over, tears stinging her eyes.
Sable placed a big hand on her back.  “Angelica, what is it?”
“Something…is… wrong… with Josh,” she panted.  She grasped the edge of the table with her free hand.
As soon as Angie’s words were out a sharp pain tore through Erin’s midsection.  She stood and clutched her stomach.  “Angelo.  He’s hurt.”  The fact that she was suddenly able to sense his pain worried her.
“They’re in trouble,” Erin gasped.
Angie screamed as another pain tore through her other side.  She could feel Josh’s pain as clearly as if it were her own.
“Something’s wrong.  We’ve got to go.”
Sable stood.  “Okay, everyone out,” he barked to the other people in the room.  When no one moved he barked louder. “Now!”   The tone in his voice sent everyone scrambling towards the exit.  Once everyone was out he turned back to the girls.
“Go to them but be wary, and let me know as soon as you are safe.”  He gathered Angie against him and kissed the top of her head.  “God speed,” he whispered against her hair.
Angie stepped away from Sable and clutched Erin’s trembling hand.
With a thought they vanished.
“My God be with you,” Sable whispered.

Excerpt

She didn’t feel pain as she drew the razor sharp edge of the blade against the soft part of her palm.  Dark-red blood pooled along the gash.  Stepping forward, Angie placed her hand on the large wall.  When she drew it back, a bloody hand print was left behind.  She watched as the rock wall absorbed the blood like a giant sponge.
Stepping back, she lifted her hands high above her head.  She chanted low as her mother and Lilith stood close by watching and monitoring her ritual.  Her midnight-black wings stretched to her sides and she could feel the Earth’s energy vibrating through each feather.
“Very good, my daughter,” Kali crooned.  Angie ignored her and concentrated on the words of her chant.  If she could not fully focus on what she was doing then everything they’d been through would be for naught.
The ground gave a low groan of protest and trembled beneath her feet.  Finally, the rock wall hissed and began to split.  Angie cleared her throat and began speaking.
“Iter!  Egredere, et vocet te. Ego vocare te. Ego vocare te.”  The Latin rolled off her tongue as if it were her primary language.  She clapped her hands in front of her once and the sound rumbled like thunder, echoing all around them and causing the mountain to quiver.
She repeated the incantation in English, her voice strong and clear.  “Open!  Come forth, I summon you.  I summon you.  I summon you.”  She slowly pulled her hands apart and the crack began to widen.  The farther she opened her hands, the wider the fissure grew.
With her arms stretched out to her sides, Angie stared into the yawning black void in front of her.  Wisps of thick, black steam snaked out of the darkness and curled around her legs.
“Come forth,” she demanded. “You are free.”  Seven misty shapes drifted forward.
“Welcome,” Angie said anxiously.
“What year is this?” one of the shapes hissed.  To Angie’s ears it sounded like the disembodied voice was coming out of a synthesizer, and she wasn’t overly sure which of the seven were speaking.  It seemed like each one spoke a different word to complete the question.
“Two thousand and twelve.”
“We’ve been asleep for over a millennia,” they said.  Suddenly the air around them crackled with tension as they turned towards Kali.  “Ah, Kali, it’s so good to see you again,” they hissed.
Kali stepped forward and reverently bowed at the waist in front of them.  “It is good to see you as well.”
“You’re feeling anxious,” they observed as they drifted closer, creating a tight circle around her.
Angie watched as her mother’s face blanched.
“It’s been a long time.  Surely long enough to heal any grievances you harbor for me,” Kali stammered as she tried to back away.  She stopped abruptly when her back collided with a shape.
Angie wondered how a figure that was misty and transparent could be solid.
“Do you know the remarkable thing about being trapped inside of a rock wall?”  The voices began to rise in anger and Angie stepped closer, unable to take her eyes from the petrified look on her Kali’s face.  She found pleasure in her mother’s terror.  She could feel their anger dancing heavily around her.  Her gaze darted to Lilith, who watched with eager anticipation as an evil smile tilted her lips.
“W-what is that?”  Kali whispered.
“We’ve had plenty of time to think about revenge,” they hissed.

I'm a born and raised small town girl. I love fishing, camping, big and loud trucks, but don't let my boots fool ya, I can slip out of my boots and into a pair of heels in no time flat! I love books and movies and it seems that there is never enough time to read or watch them all. I bake and decorate cakes (in my free time) pffft what's that right?
My husband is my world. He has been my cheerleader as I strive to achieve my writing goals; he's helped pick me up and dust me off when I get rejected; he laughs with me, and more times than not he laughs AT me, and he lends a shoulder for me to cry on. He's my rock but more importantly he is my best friend. We have two beautiful sons, Dillyn (8) and Traben (2). They are my angels and by becoming an author I want to show them that their dreams can come true. I have something that not many people can brag about. I have my parents (both amazing God Fearing people married 31 years) and my AMAZING in-laws (married 44 years) these two couples are part of my inspiration. I am also fortunate to call my three younger brothers my best friends. I have a few close friends that have helped me come so far.   I value my relationships and treat them all like rare gems, because they are all special and unique in their own way. I love making people laugh, no matter what. Life is too short to be so serious all the time.
Writing has always been a dream of mine. It's been a comfort when I'm hurting and an outlet when I'm mad. It is my security blanket.

Dream Cast

I want to let you all know my own visual I have of some of these characters. Erin, I have an artist pic that shows an angle with the blonde hair, and lavender eyes, this could be Erin. That’s who I pictured. I found this pic on a free fantasy wallpapers website, here is direct link to this one, Fantasy AngelBut if to pick an actress, I would have to pick Claire Holt (Rebekah in the Vampire Diaries show)

For Thad, of course I see Chris Hemsworth (like when in Thor)

For Lucy, I pictured Krisin Kreuk (was Lana in Smallville, now in Beauty and the Beast on tv)

For Angie, I pictured Phoebe Tonkin (Played in The Secret Circle as Faye, now on Vampire Diaries as Tylers friend Haley)

For Josh I could see Steven McQueen (Vampire Diaries as Jeremy)

I had a harder time picturing Blaze, as to me, just about no-one without hair is attractive, and even though the description doesn’t fit entirely, I saw Shemar Moore as Blaze, as he looks great bald. (he is an agent on Criminal Minds tv show as Derek) I just could not picture Vin Diesel as the author described, as I do not think he is attractive.

Angelo, was hard, I ended up picturing Ian Somerhalder with them grey like eyes, close enough (Vampire Diaries for those who don’t know, as Damon)

For Sable, I could see The Rock being him, don’t know why, just popped into my head.

Promo Post and Review & Interview: Final Redemption (The Chosen Book 3) by Christine James

Ok, this is not the cover for the book, Final Redemption, obviously, but I love this artwork, and to me, it resembled the way Erin in this series would look, to me anyway. (i only changed one thing, made her eyes lavender, like in the book) (I found this pic on a free fantasy wallpapers website, here is direct link to this one, Fantasy Angel

Lets start this off first with the interview with the author Christine James, she answers a question on a summary of the series, and what the characters would look like to her. Then, in my review, I say to me, what they looked like. Just having some fun. This is a great series, and I fell in love with these characters, and really connected with them

So, here is Christine James:
Interview:

 1. Where did the ideas come from for the Chosen series, Fallen, Risen, and Final Redemption?

Fallen was never supposed to be a series.  I've written so many different genres (mostly historical/pirate romance novels) and it dawned on me that I'd never actually written a paranormal.  I liked the challenge it presented, and I LOVE reading them, so I thought why not give it a go...In fact, when I originally wrote Fallen, it was set to be a vampire short story, for a small writing group I have on another media sight called Cafemom.  The more I thought about it, the more I really didn't like Angelo for a vampire.  I love vampire novels, don't get me wrong, there are so many great ones out there I just didn't feel like i could come up with an original enough idea.  I used my knowledge of angels as well as my biblical knowledge ( the bible was a big tool in my research) combined with some cool lore and myths and wham Fallen was born.  However, it was still never intended for publication, I am a horrible speller and very grammatically challenged.  A friend of mine told me that a local author had published with Amazon so it was something that piqued my interest, but I wasn't going to publish Fallen at all, in fact by this point I'd completely forgotten all about it.  It wasn't my favorite piece of work at all.  My best friend, and in most cases my muse, pushed me into Fallen.  I argued until I was blue in the face and second guessed myself even more.  She pushed me until I gave in, though not without arguing. So I opened Fallen and began working on it some more… Adding and subtracting and polishing.  Once I finished Fallen, I didn't have that feeling like it was over, I wasn't satisfied with how it ended.  There had to be more, i felt like there were more to these people and that their stories weren't so cut and dry.  Risen was born and within the first three pages, I knew that there would be another book.  Once Final Redemption was finished, I felt like everything was complete.  I was satisfied.

 2.  Can you tell us about the series as a whole, without too much spoilery for hopeful readers?

Wow, ummm, lol.  We start in Fallen with a young girl being "Chosen" to save the earth.  She's virtually alone in the world, having never known what it was like to be in love.  Fallen takes us on a journey with many trials. The characters are all Nephilim, and even though they have specific powers, they are flawed and honestly at times I just wanted to slap one (or all of them).  There are situations that are real in life and I wanted the readers to feel that.  In Fallen, centuries old friendships are tested, love blossoms, boundaries are pushed, and lies are told. The characters aren't sure who to believe or who to trust. Risen, picks up not too long after Fallen ends.  Here, we switch main characters.  The main characters of Fallen aren't the main focus, however they still play a vital role.  We switch to different members of the little group and literally get inside their heads for a little while.  Betrayal plays a massive role in Risen as well as tragedy.  There are some really heart wrenching moments in this book and we get a true look at how seriously emotionally damaged some of these poor characters are.Final Redemption literally picks up a few weeks after Risen.  Here the characters are completely broken and unsure of everything.  They are full of self doubt and hurt caused by each other they can’t connect like they need too.  Here they have to repair themselves and the emotional damage they caused to one another in order to do their jobs properly.  We also meet another member of the crew!!!!! This one is chock full of emotion and confusion.   Though these have romance in them, they are not cookie cutter happily ever after.  They are presented with real situations and real confusion.  I often felt confused for them.

3.  Who is your favorite character in the series?
Throughout the WHOLE SERIES I would have to say Blaze.  He’s hot (all pun intended) but Lucy would have to be my fave from Final Redemption.  She’s a spark plug and I love it.

4.   I love getting inside the authors head, so to give us a visual. If this was to be a movie, which actors could you see play the Chosen 7? Plus Angie? Erin, Angelo, Thad, Blaze, Josh, Sable, and Lucy.
That’s a tough question.  When I write I see these people in my head and I mix their features with so many everyday people I see. Let’s see.Thad- Alexis Denisof Pic here (Wesley from Angel)Sable- Michael Clark Duncan Pic Here(even though Sable is white in the book) this is who I have envisioned as Sable.Angie- Megan Fox  (we all know what she looks like Here is pic)Angelo- Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean style) (pic)Erin- Hayden Panettier (Pic here)Lucy- Jamie Chung (pic) or Bia Ling (Pic)Josh- Leland Chapman (Pic) (though I know he and Megan fox do not look like twins) this is who I had pegged as josh from the beginning.Blaze- a less serious version of Vin Diesel. (pic)  Same beautiful body though.

5.  Is there a favorite scene that you like the best? Can you share it, without too much spoilers?
There were a lot of scene’s I like.  Most of them contained Lucy and her snarky, to the point honesty and sarcasm.  But … probably the Football in the rain scene…

6.   Is there a part in any of the books that you either cried the most, or laughed the hardest? (I sure can think of some funny parts, with Lucy, lol)

Yes, there is one particular scene in Final Redemption that had me literally sobbing.  I had to step away from it for a few days because it was completely raw and hit far too close to home, but I felt I HAD to go there to get that feeling.

“’K, boys, it’s shirts against skins.  Lose ‘em,” Lucy said, pointing to the guys and ignoring Thad.“I beg your pardon?”  Thad said, aghast.“Why do we have to be skins?”  Josh complained.Lucy looked at Erin and they both shrugged and grabbed the hems of their shirts, preparing to haul them over their heads.“Whoa!”  Sable said, covering his eyes immediately.“Wait,” Josh, Angelo, and Thad said at the same time.“Hell, yeah,” Blaze chimed in.The girls stopped right before they fully exposed their chest.  “What?  You guys act like none of you have ever seen a pair of boobs in a bra before.  Josh saw mine a few hours ago and I know, for a fact, that three of you have seen hers outside the bra.”  Lucy looked pointedly at Thad, Blaze, and Angelo.Erin’s head snapped in Josh’s direction.  “JOSH!” she screeched, accidentally letting loose a snap of electricity.

The day my writing becomes all about the money, will be the day I walk away from writing for good.

Author Bio:My Bio…
I come from and live in rural Missouri.  I'm the true country girl, right down to my pink Justin cowboy boots, and love for big, loud, and muddy trucks. My love of writing began when I was in the fifth grade, when my first story was a 'scary' story.  I've always been fascinated with books, and rarely without one. My family is the most important thing to me.  My parents and their marriage have had the largest influence in my life.  They taught me values that I still believe in and firmly rooted in, and if i achieve to be 1/2 of the parent they were to me, that would be amazing.  I have three younger brothers that I considers my best friends, and one fantastic sister-in-law, and one soon to be sister-in-law I adore.  I have the most INCREDIBLE in-laws any person could ever hope to have.  They are truly amazing and inspiring people. There are no dreaded or horrible in-law stories here, nor will there be, because I love them.I have two sons that are the center of my world. I am blessed and fortunate to say I get to stay at home with them... I've been married to my husband for ten and a half years and is proud to call him my biggest fan.The thing I love the most, outside of writing and my family, is making people laugh.  People come and go from our lives, touching and changing us in all kinds of ways.  I want to be the type of person that touches someone's life, even if it is by writing a book.  I believe that if only a quarter of the people in the world would loosen up and smile, the world would be a little bit happier. Never in my dreams did I believe my dreams would come true. I’ve always been a hopeless dreamer, and this goes to show everyone that no dream is impossible.

My review:

Wow, this story really captivated my attention. I would dream about it, and think about it when not reading. It took over my life, lol. For those who had not read the first 2 books, I will basically do a summary, but warn you, there could be some spoilers for books 1 ( Fallen) and 2 (Risen).

We start this one where Risen ended. The Chosen Nephlimn still have the battle ahead agains Lilith and her demons. Now the the Chosen have something that Lilith doesn’t know about, that can help them win, I wont say what, as it would be a major spoiler for those who didn’t read the other 2.

I will say we had excitement non-stop, action and some fun sexy times. The war that Erin has going on with her feelings in this one is a major one. I feel so bad for Angeleo, but will say, Thad sounds pretty good to me. I pictured my own hereo for him (Thor) meaning the actor, Chris Hemsworth, who I LOVE.
Make sure to read the interview I did with Christine, she gives us her vision of the main characters. I will give my own too as I write this.

I was really happy with the few new characters that we have acquired, especially Lucy, who is funny, snarky, and just plain fun. I also loved Thad too, but hate the conflicts he causes.
I was sad about the whole Angie deal, if you read the first 2, you will know the path that she is headed, and its sad. But I will say, this book did end with satisfaction. All loose ends were tied up nice, and I was satisfied, but sad to see it end as well.

I want to point out, that this series, and this book especially is really well put together. I really can’t find any flaw in it. Only one thing that I know will but a few people, but I got used to, is the changing from one character to the next without a pagebreak, BUT in saying that, its done in a way, that your not lost. Also, I can’t be sure I have a finished copy, so there is that too. I do enjoy getting inside the different characters heads. It really makes me care about them, I feel they are part of me now.

I connected in a big way to all of them, and that’s not something I always will do. Even Erin, who I took longer to warm up to in the first book, has grown on me, now I love her.
I highly recommend this book, and the previous ones. (you need to read them first, to know what’s going on)

I want to let you all know my own visual I have of some of these characters. Erin, I have an artist pic that shows an angle with the blonde hair, and lavender eyes, this could be Erin. That’s who I pictured. But if to pick an actress, I would have to pick Claire Holt (Rebekah in the Vampire Diaries show)

5 out of 5 stars for me
