From Drake:
You don’t expect anything good to come out of being kidnapped, especially on the day I was set to win a major surfing contest. Dude, it seriously sucks!
How they got the jump on me, I’ll never know. It’s kind of embarrassing. I can control minds and kick ass, so how’d this happen?
Well, all I can say is I’m glad it happened. I know, that’s crazy, right? But I’d never have met Sam if some blockheads hadn’t wiped me out on Venice Beach that day. Also, we kind of need each other to get out of this seriously F’d up situation, so…
Maybe fate?
But there’s more. She’s special, different. The last girl I hooked up with, let’s just say she was more of a one-nighter that got out of hand. Sam’s a girl I could see spending every night with, forever. No, more than that. Sam’s the girl I can’t imagine my life without.
I can’t even tell you how painful it is to be stripped of my powers and held captive, knowing some of the things they’re doing to Sam. You don’t even want to know what I’m doing to do to those bastards when I get my strength back. If you’ve got a weak stomach, you might want to turn your head.
I’d kill for her and I’d die for her. But most of all, I’d live for her.

My review of this whole series together, with the extra content.

I absolutely love this series as a whole, as you probably can tell if you read my reviews of all 3 books. They are pretty long, and no need to put them all here.

Through the whole series, I just fell in love with these characters.

What I really liked is we did not get thrown a whole bunch of characters all at the same time in book one. More were added as the books went one, so this made it very easy to keep track of who is who, and all of that.
Sam and Drake are the best; to me they have an epic love. Being they first developed this without even meeting face to face.

Sam can read minds, and Drake can control minds, and somehow they were able to connect with each other through their minds. More on that in the first books review. But the point is, they fell in love over time, and from being connected this way. I loved that.

Luke and Lucy are great; I love them and what they can do. I really loved when Hunter came into the story, in the 3rd book. Just wish he would of came on the scene sooner.

The extra content is great. I loved having that to read. Won’t tell you about it, as If you have not read any of these, it could spoil a lot for you.

Overall, if you liked the x-men movies or Dark Angel from years ago, you will love this. This reminds me more of a show that is on TV now, called Alphas, they also have these type of abilities,  and have a task force to find and protect other Alphas, which is what they call people with the Para-powers like they call in these books. If you have seen that and like it, you will love this series even more. As its more intense, and just amazing. I see some people say it has some dystopian in it, but I do not see that at all. But that’s my opinion.

Now you can get the whole series in this great 3 in one book, plus the great extra content.

I highly recommend this 3 in 1 book.

5 out of 5 stars

From Sam (small taste)
Reading minds isn’t as glamorous as you might imagine. First, everyone’s pretty much freaked out around you. No one wants to make eye contact, because they subconsciously think they can avoid detection that way. (It doesn’t work, by the way.) And everyone has thoughts that they would never want anyone else to know about.
Even you.
Think about it. How many times have you judged someone harshly, or thought something naughty or totally inappropriate or had a random urge to smack someone (or worse)? Most of us never act on these thoughts. In fact, 90% of them flitter through our consciousness so fast, we aren’t even fully aware of them.
But I am.
I hear those things you don’t even like to acknowledge in yourself. They dance around in my head like a song on repeat. I can’t ever rid myself of your darkest perversions. Is it any wonder Luke and Lucy are my only friends and I’ve never had a boyfriend?
Until Drake.
He’s unlike any other guy I’ve ever known, and not just because he has inhuman physical strength and can control people with his mind, every guy I grew up with at Rent-A-Kid had some para-power. No, it’s who he is on the inside.
He’s fearless and accepts me 100% for who I am. He isn’t scared of my powers and he doesn’t try to hide who he is from me. He let me in to his most intimate secrets and laid himself bare for me to judge.
It’s hard, though. I have mixed feelings about the whole mind control thing. Our roles are reversed, you see. While he accepts me, I find myself scared of his power. But I’m working on it. Together, we face some big challenges.

BOOK BLURB: FORBIDDEN FIRE

"She escaped, but she'll never be free."

"Time held no meaning as my mind darted in and out of memories. Past and present collided to create a full-sensory collage out of my life: playing hide-n-seek with my best friends Luke--who always cheated by walking through walls when he was about to be caught--and Lucy; Mr. Caldrin critiquing my sketches and offering ideas to make them more realistic; targets changing faces, blending into the same person, their thoughts rippling through my mind like waves. Through it all, a demon stalked me from the shadows of my memories, never quite showing its face, but crouching, waiting.

And then I dreamed...."

Sam and Drake may have escaped, but they aren't free—not with a powerful Seeker after them. As Sam struggles with the ethics of her new powers and embraces a blossoming physical relationship with Drake, Lucy and Luke face challenges of their own.

With forces coalescing inside and outside the Rent-A-Kid dorms, it's only a matter of time before the fire they started forces each of them to make choices they can't undo. But will it be enough to save them?

Excerpt From Forbidden Fire

My Forbidden Fire Review

Wow, this story just keeps getting better and better. It flows so well from one book till the next. I was happy that I have them all here ready to read. And same with the last and final book, Forbidden Life, I am ready to pick it up too.

Since this is the 2nd book, and know some may not have read the first yet, I am being careful in this review, it will be spoiler free for both books, the best I can.

I loved Forbidden Mind, and love Forbidden Fire too.
This series reminds me of a few TV shows I had watched in the past, and now. In the past, I watched a show called Dark Angel, this reminds me of it; in the way that the kids are locked up, and trained for the companies own uses, and tracking devices installed too. But in this series, the kids are more like the x-men characters, and a whole lot like a show I watch on Sci-Fi channel called Alphas, in that one, its not kids, but adult with all sorts of Para-powers too, but they call them Alphas.

Anyway, the point is, even though these are all similar in ways, this story in itself is unique.

I am hooked like you would not believe in this series, and will be sad to see it end. I really am impressed with Kimberly’s writing style, and am very comfortable in reading it.
I love how we get to be in different points of view. In this one, we get inside many, Sam, Drake, Lucy and more.

I do not want to say much more about the story, as to not spoil it, but its intense, exciting, and non-stop action. You will be on the edge of your seat reading as fast as you can to see what happens next. It has been really hard to put down, for sleep, lol.
I highly recommend this series. It’s great for all ages, you get the sci-fi spin with the paranormal in there too, with some romance. Love it.

5 out of 5 stars for me.

Title: The Forbidden Mind
Author: Kimberly Kinrade

Publication Date: September 6, 2011

Summary
She reads minds.
He controls minds.
Together, they might get out alive.

49% of Americans believe their government officials are honest.

I don't know these officials, or their supporters, but I know their secrets, and 49% of Americans are wrong.

My employers pay me well to be right, to know things others can't. But I don't know why they brought that boy in, strapped to a stretcher, barely conscious. He asked me for help when I could give none.

I'm a wealthy spy, a talented artist, a martial arts black belt, and a prisoner.

They tell me that on my eighteenth birthday, I will be released, free to go to the college of my dreams.

It's my eighteenth birthday, and a man in black is at my door. I know he's not here to free me.

I know, because I can read minds.

My name is Sam, and this is my story.

So begins the tale of Sam and Drake—from the time they link minds, forging a bond that leads to an unconventional romance—to their fight for survival against the corrupt, twisted organization known as 'Rent-A-Kid.' Evolved Publishing brings you "Forbidden Mind" (Book 1 of the Forbidden Trilogy), by award-winning author Kimberly Kinrade.

"...a thrilling, dark and deeply romantic read that had me sitting on the edge of my seat and eagerly awaiting the next installment." ~ Refracted Light Young Adult Book Reviews

"The plot is very ALIAS and DARK ANGEL-like with X-MEN as its backdrop (awesome combo!). Forbidden Mind BLEW my mind!" ~Sour Skittles Book Blog

Winner of 2011 Forward National Literature Award

As of June 23rd, 2012, Forbidden Mind is now a new and improved extended edition. Twice the content with new twists and turns, the new Forbidden Mind has more of what readers loved in the original, all for the same price!

(Book #2 of the Forbidden Trilogy, "Forbidden Fire," is available NOW on Amazon. The final book of the trilogy, Forbidden Life, will be available soon)

My Review:

Man, where to start? It blew my socks off! That’s where, this book was amazing, so well written, and hooks you in from the very start. It’s like a show I used to watch, called Dark Angel, but throw in some X-men, with a little of that movie Push and some unconventional romance and you have this amazing story!

Once you’re past the normal, get to know the characters part, it really gets intense and sure gets me completely invested in the journey Sam (a girl) and Drake, and the twins Luke and Lucy.
I love the whole idea behind this, as it has the believable element to it. In the way, if our race of humans (government maybe) found out there were people like Sam, Drake, Lucy and Luke, among all the others, that this is something I would not put past us humans. Gathering them up, to use to their own financial gain, and worse, but will leave that for you to discover. They are basically prisoners, but didn’t know if for most of their life. They were told they were being “protected” but people with nefarious intentions for them, while all along, these people were the ones to be afraid of.

We start in Sam’s Point of view which is written in 1st person, and we go back and forth from Sam and Drake. Now when at
Drake’s point of view, its 3rd person. I had to get used to this style, but liked it, each chapter starts with the name of whoever the point of view is from.

Sam can read minds, and Drake can do more, he can “push” thoughts, or bend them to his will, and he has superhuman strength.  I will leave what the twins can do a mystery. No spoilers here.

The love story part is great; I love that Sam and Drake fall in love over a span of many months at least (and only contact in their mind). As he is captured and imprisoned, he is kept drugged so he can’t use his strength and his mind control. So strapped to a bed, he is able to reach out to Sam’s mind, and they form this link, a 2 way communication, which is something Sam has never experienced.  So through this connection, they are in each other’s minds, and form a bond like no other could in a normal way. She does not judge him for some of the things Drake has had to do. Think of bad evil foster people, beating a poor young boy, well, once he develops his power, you can imagine what happens. She does not judge, she sees and feels what he went through. His nightmares become her nightmares. They form a love that is epic.

I can go on all day on how much I love Drake. He is the ultimate guy all around.  In my mind, he has the look of a younger version of Chris Hemsworth (I know, I am obsessed with him, lol, ) as he has the lighter hair, with the blond sun bleached highlights (he likes to surf) and the deep crystal blue eyes, that’s always what pops into my head. He also is big with a great build (he is super strong) There are others that could come to mind, but what came to my head was close to Chris, but really because my own super hot look.

Sam (I do not like when a character has a boys name when it’s a girl, as I was not sure Sam was a girl at first) has light blue eyes and dark hair. I think of the girl from the new show on TV Revolution , Tracy Spiridakos, has the beautiful blue eyes like hers, and the actions that I could see Sam doing too. (though her hair is a little lighter)

For Luke I thought of Theo James (he played David in Underworld: Awakening movie, and when he has the blue eyes) and for his sister Lucy I thought of  the girl from a show called Rookie Blue, Missy Peregryn, she has the right look.

There is so many great twist and turns in this book, and you wont see them coming. I do not want to say much more. Just give this book a try. Visit me and others on the book tour.
5 out of 5 stars for me.

Interview with Kimberly Kinrade author of the Fobidden Trilogy

What inspired you to want to become a writer?

I joke that I was born with ink in my veins. Writing has always been in my blood. I had many ‘businesses ‘ as a child, including a very successful-if short lived- museum I created in my grandparents’ backyard (using fossilized rocks from their rose garden) to pulling out teeth before they were even loose to sell to the Tooth Fairy. But my most prolific business by far was writing short stories and poetry and selling them door-to-door to neighbors and family.

I’ve been penning fantastical tales ever since. By the time I started college I was working as a reporter for a major daily newspaper in Los Angeles, California and freelancing for magazines.

My novels took second seat to ‘paying’ work for many years, but I couldn’t repress my fiction voice for long. And now, here I am!

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.

There have been many rewarding experiences for me, from getting fan mail and pictures of children who’ve been touched by my Three Lost Kids series, to hearing from fans who fell in love with paranormal because of my Forbidden Mind trilogy… but the best experience had to be seeing the look on my daughter’s face when for the first time, they held the books that I’d written for them , about the worlds they’d created.

Though that first royalty check that actually paid some major bills wasn’t bad either!

What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?

Learn your craft. Study your craft. Hire professionals every step of the way. If your editor isn’t challenging you to improve your writing, find a better editor. And above all, don’t put your work out there until it’s ready.

How do you react to a bad review?

It depends on the review. If I think it has valid points, I’ll consider how I can improve my writing or story telling for future books. Otherwise, I don’t worry too much about them. We all get them, it’s the price of going public with our work. To me it’s a sign that I’m being read by more than just close friends. Not everyone’s going to love my books, and I’m okay with that.

How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?

I’m really horrible about celebrating milestones. Usually I just dive into my next book. But my husband and kids make sure I go out for dinner or a movie or something as a family, and that I have fun after working hard for so long.

What is your favorite Quote?

“You see, I want a lot. Maybe I want it all: the darkness of each endless fall, the shimmering light of each ascent,” Rilke

What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” By C.S. Lewis. It’s still one of my favorites.

Who are your favorite authors of all time?

C.S. Lewis, Neil Gaiman, Patti Larsen, J.K. Rowling, Patrick Rothfuss, Brandon Sanderson, and of course, my husband Dmytry Karpov J

Any other books in the works?

Always! I have several lower grade chapter books coming out between now and January for The Three Lost Kids series. Also, in March, Dmytry Karpov (My husband) and I are launcing the entire trilogy in one day. Blood of the Fallen is first in that series, and it’s a spin-off of the Forbidden Trilogy, but it’s very different in so many ways! We are incredibly excited about co-writing this series together.

If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Nefertiti. She was the wife of the Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten in the 1300’s BC. This time period in Egyptian history fascinates me. They revolutionized religion of that time, turning the polytheistic government into a monotheistic one-with the exclusive worship of Aten, the sun god.

Nefertiti herself is a mystery. No one knows where she came from, but she had great power and was depicted as equel to the Pharaoh in the art. Many believe she governed Egypt when her husband was killed, during the period before King Tut came to power. I would love to pick her brain about what really happened during those days and what life was like for her.

She heavily influenced two novels I have coming out next year. The Reluctant Familiar and Familiar and The Egyptian Queen. (Both YA fantasy/paranormal novels in the same series)

What do you do in your free time?

I didn’t know such a thing existed outside of fiction. Seriously though, on the rare occasion I do have free time I love to read, watch movies and cuddle with my husband and children. I also like to color with my kids, take naps on rainy days and go on a date with the aforementioned husband from time to time.
