The Reflections of Queen Snow White
By David Meredith

Blurb:

What happens when "happily ever after" has come and gone?
On the eve of her only daughter, Princess Raven's wedding, an aging Snow White finds it impossible to share in the joyous spirit of the occasion. The ceremony itself promises to be the most glamorous social event of the decade. Snow White’s castle has been meticulously scrubbed, polished and opulently decorated for the celebration. It is already nearly bursting with jubilant guests and merry well-wishers. Prince Edel, Raven's fiancĂ©, is a fine man from a neighboring kingdom and Snow White's own domain is prosperous and at peace. Things could not be better, in fact, except for one thing:
The king is dead.
The queen has been in a moribund state of hopeless depression for over a year with no end in sight. It is only when, in a fit of bitter despair, she seeks solitude in the vastness of her own sprawling castle and climbs a long disused and forgotten tower stair that she comes face to face with herself in the very same magic mirror used by her stepmother of old.
It promises her respite in its shimmering depths, but can Snow White trust a device that was so precious to a woman who sought to cause her such irreparable harm? Can she confront the demons of her own difficult past to discover a better future for herself and her family? And finally, can she release her soul-crushing grief and suffocating loneliness to once again discover what "happily ever after" really means?
Only time will tell as she wrestles with her past and is forced to confront The Reflections of Queen Snow White.

#Giveaway ~ Awaken by L.J. Sealy ~ Review and more!

Welcome to the Blog Tour for L.J. Sealey's book AWAKEN - a Divine Hunter Novel
Released on 19th November 2013.

BLURB:

Michael Warden used to live a normal life. A successful entrepreneur he had everything until his life got taken away from him. Literally. Now he is trapped in a world that shouldn’t exist, fighting things that should only exist in nightmares in a quest to find out the truth about what happened to him.

Lacy Holloway is finally content in the little town of Oakland, Garrett Co. Working at the local university, she has finally allowed herself to move on from the one thing that had haunted her past. Aside from an unsettling string of suicides at her place of work, Lacy is happy. Then a new colleague enters her life. Michael is handsome, smart and their friendship is instant…Easy.

That is, until another student attempts to take her own life and Lacy is hurled into a world of nightmares which she soon discovers Michael is already a part of. As they are forced to face demons, both the supernatural and the emotional kind, they also have to face the realisation that they are both beginning to feel things for each other that neither of them expected, least of all Michael. As well as trying not to fall too deeply for the woman who has captivated him, he is shocked to discover things about his very existence that could change both their lives and the world as they know it.

Wow, this book was great! It took some time for me to get used to the writing and phrasing as they are obvious that its from an English writer, and the main female character is from European area so it works, but when its from Michael's, Point of view, it seems odd as he is American, but it was fine, I am used to reading books by authors who have the unique phrasings, and I rather enjoy it.

Michael is just awesome! He is sexy, hot, and is the sweetest guy. Yeah, one hold up is he's dead, and in another body now, but not all is as it seems in this book. You get plenty of mystery on who and what Michael really is.

I was hooked from the first chapter and could not put it down. Lacy was a great person too, they both are, and would be a great couple if things were normal.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the paranormal romance, with a little steam add to the suspense and mystery.

5 out of 5 stars.

I was given a copy of this book for my honest review.

(part of Chapter one)

CHAPTER ONE

October 4th, 2011.
Cambridge, Ohio.

Michael sat alone at the bar with a double whiskey, though he wasn’t drinking so much as staring into it trying to establish what it was that had brought him on this journey from Columbus.
Yesterday’s newspaper article had read that four teenagers over the space of seven days had thrown themselves from their dorm windows at State Park University. Although the authorities were treating it as some sort of suicide pact, Michael suspected otherwise. People don’t just throw themselves from buildings for the sake of it and, knowing what he did now, he wasn’t about to ignore it.
Michael Warden was an investigator.
Not your usual, ordinary type of investigator−like the ones who track down criminals or follow people suspected of having affairs and such−but an investigator of the paranormal kind. Some might say aDemon Hunter; a Ghost Buster. If only it was as simple as that.
He read the page that he’d printed out from the Daily Tribune’s website again to make sure he hadn’t missed anything. Then he folded it up and placed it back into his worn, black, double breasted coat pocket. He knocked back his whiskey and made his way out of the bar. It was early evening in Baltimore, MD, and a slight mist had started to settle in. Michael still had a little over three hours’ drive ahead of him to get to where his reservation was: a small place called The Sunshine Motel a couple of miles outside of Garrett Co. He’d planned on having an early night so he could make a start on his new investigation early the next morning, but he’d made an unscheduled stop for some food on the way.
He crossed the rush hour traffic and headed towards his car. The dusty, beige, 96 Chevy Cavalier (which had seen much better days) was parked up on the other side of the street. He reached for his keys and was about to unlock the driver’s side door when he heard a female voice cry for help behind him. He looked back to see a young woman struggling to hold on to her purse as one of three hooded youths attempted to prize it from her hands.
“Hey!” Michael shouted over the noise of the traffic, loud enough for the youths to notice him as he immediately ran back to help. Two of the hoods ran off leaving one−who had succeeded in his goal−fumbling with the woman’s purse. He looked up at Michael, dropped it in a panic onto the sidewalk, and ran like hell.
“Are you ok?” Michael asked as he passed the young woman her purse from the floor. She nodded, clearly shaken by her ordeal, but instead of staying with her and waiting while the cops were called, he decided he had something else to do. After he’d visually checked her over, he began to run after her attackers.
The group of youths made a right turn down a dimly lit alleyway between two tall office blocks. Michael followed them. A few faint street lights highlighted a row of dumpsters down one side; the heavy stench of their rotting contents filling the air. They reached the end of the alley, and faced with nothing but a high fence which split the dark space in two, they began to get visibly agitated.
“You might as well give it up boys,” Michael shouted to them after he realised they were trapped. One of them began to climb up the fence and easily managed to pull himself to the top. Then he jumped down the other side. “Come on!” He gestured for his buddies but they were bigger and heavier than he was and were having some trouble executing the climb with the same ease as their friend.
Michael caught up to them and grabbed hold of one of the boys−now half way up the fence−by his waist and pulled him down to the floor. “Get off me!” The boy shouted as Michael grappled with him before managing to pin him to the ground. Too busy batting the youth’s hands away as he tried desperately to lay one on him, Michael hadn’t noticed that the other boy−the largest of the group−had jumped back down from the fence. Suddenly a thick arm wrapped around Michael’s neck, dragging him to his feet and holding him back long enough for the other boy to jump up, grazed and bloodied. As he did, he pulled a blade from his inside pocket and held it out in front of him pointing the dangerous end right at Michael.
Michael managed to break free from the large boy’s surprisingly strong grip after elbowing him right in his diaphragm. He paused for a second and looked at the knife: Nothing special, just your everyday Smith and Wesson pocket knife with a three inch blade, but Michael started to back away. There was no point getting into something he wouldn’t be able to explain to the authorities especially as he still had a long journey ahead of him. The boy obviously saw it as a weakness and lunged straight for him causing Michael to jump back out of his reach until his back hit a wall which stopped him from going any further. “Son of a. . . ” The youth never stopped and at the last minute he lost his footing. Falling forward, his knife plunged straight into Michael’s stomach causing him to gasp. His eyes widened with surprise.
The boy looked down at what he’d done and his face instantly paled. Michael saw a moment of panic as he stared straight into the boy’s deep indigo eyes. He couldn’t have been more than seventeen years old if he was that. After a moment, the boy let go of the knife to leave it sticking out from Michael’s flesh. He stood frozen to the spot, his mouth working like a goldfish with no sound escaping.
“Come on dude let’s go!” the boy’s friend urged as he grabbed him by the arm. “We gotta split before anyone sees us. Leave him, come on!” That was enough to snap the boy into action and they both ran back down the alley to the street leaving Michael standing there looking at the knife as blood soaked through his gray T-shirt spreading outwards from the wound. There was no pain though. In fact, he’d hardly felt a thing which hadn’t surprised him too much.
Now all alone in the alley, with nothing but the sound of dripping water from a leaky gutter nearby and the distant traffic noise, Michael placed his hand around the black handle, held his breath and pulled it out slowly. It felt strange, not like he’d expected at all. It was almost numb with a slight scratchy, pulling sensation as the blade exited his flesh. He dropped it to the floor and lifted his T-shirt to assess the damage. There was now a deep slit right under his ribs on the left-hand side, but he felt ok. There was no panic because he knew he’d be perfectly fine.
Under different circumstances though, he knew that right about now he would be dropping to the ground and waiting to die from such a lethal wound. He’d already lost a lot of blood and was pretty sure that the knife had punctured his kidney.
That wasn’t about to happen to him though. You see. . . Michael Warden was no longer human.
The body he walked in wasn’t his. Neither was the name he now used.
Both used to belong to someone else−a young man. Someone who’d been down on his luck, who’d had no family to care about him, and his misfortunes had led him to choose a dark path. He’d had no home, no real friends and was a heavy drug user. It looked like the poor guy had been using for many years before Michael fell upon him that day when he’d taken too much. The man had been close to death, slumped under a bridge, when Michael had found him and there was nothing that could’ve been done to save him. His death had been inevitable so his body was no longer any use to him. Michael−as he was called now−was now using that body but he used to have his own.
He used to be someone else. Someone who was a far cry from what he was now. He’d had a good career and lots of good friends and family around him. He was certainly going places until one day. . . he’d woken up dead.

I was born in the race-car city of Charlotte, NC, and now live in the City of Alchemy and Medicine, NC, when I’m not hanging out in Bardonia (Lost Immortals). Most of my characters are based on people that I’ve met throughout my travels and adventures. People tend to stop and start conversations with me as if I’ve known them my entire life. Does this freak me out? Not really. My mom says that one day I’ll get kidnapped by one of them. I told her that if it weren’t for these lovely people then I wouldn’t be able to create the stories that I do.

Some other common tidbits…hmm. I’ve watched the movie Under the Tuscan Sun almost 200 times. Seriously, the way I see it is if I keep watching it enough, then suddenly the house that Diane Lane lives in will magically appear in my backyard. I know. I have a huge imagination!

I Really loved this 2nd book. I liked it a lot more than the first for sure, not because the first was bad or anything, just it was more a set up for the whole story. We get a lot of hot Mikah in this one, and I loved that. I loved that we get a lot more of the paranormal element in this one, where the first you just do know for sure.

I liked the direction the story has taken and was very happy with the book as a whole.  That sneak peek of Give Me Desire really was interesting and has you wondering. Just glad this book didn’t leave us hanging so bad as that first one. That had made me pretty mad, lol.

I highly recommend this series.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I turn off the car, climb out and start walking across the street. I don’t like the tingles radiating through my body. “When was he due to check in?”
“Once every two hours or so. Less if we’re in an unmarked stakeout. So he would be checking—”
“Alright.” I cross Lake Street and approach the cab. The driver is there, reading the paper. He jumps when I knock on the back window as I keep walking along the car. “What are you doing here?” I ask him.
He cracks the window a bit. “Waiting for a fare.”
“Who?” I demand.
“What the fuck do you care?” he spats back.
“Just tell me who you’re here for.”
“It’s none of your damn business.” He rolls the window back up.
“Who is that?” Stevens asks in my ear.
“The cab driver of the cab outside the apartment. I’m almost to the squad car.”
As I approach the squad car, I slow my pace. Nothing moves inside the car. “If this asshole is asleep, I’m going to have your department for lunch,” I say into the phone.
I reach the car and rap loudly on the window. Nothing. Bending down, I look inside the car. Red. Bright, red fading to brown blood...
“Stevens, you have an officer down.” I don’t wait for his reply. I drop the phone and take off full tilt toward Vivienne’s apartment.
Jesus, please, dear God, no. Not her. My back is ablaze, my body trembling with the buzzing I’ve been feeling for the last couple of weeks.
I beat on the cab’s hood. “Call nine-one-one! NOW!” He nods.
I can hear sirens in the distance.
I grab the outer door, swinging it open so hard that the glass shatters. The next door is locked. I shoulder-check the glass — once, twice. Finally, on the third try, it gives way, and I go stumbling inside.
As I climb the stairs three and four at a time, I feel like I’m in a nightmare with never-ending hallways.
I reach the third floor and apartment nine. I pound on the door. “Vivienne!” Harder I pound and turn the knob, but it’s locked. “Vivienne!” I ram my shoulder into the door, harder each time, and the door flies open. I storm into her apartment.
“Jesus! God! NO!” I shout.
I rush to the bed. Reaching up to her face, I pull the tape away from her mouth with one hand while I check for a pulse with the other. I can’t feel one.
“No, damn it!” Do not do this to me!
There is blood everywhere, all over the sheets. It’s still wet, but wherever she was hurt is no longer bleeding.
There is so much blood.
When I place one hand on top of the other and press into her chest to give her CPR, her sternum gives way more than it should, and I pull back immediately, afraid of causing more damage.
I lean down and place my cheek by her mouth, hoping and praying I will feel her breath against my skin.
Nothing.
Nothing...
Tears, tears – hot, molten tears stream down my cheeks – and the buzz, the buzz is gone.

Excerpt: Untethered by Katie Hayoz

October 28th

I’m stuck in this body. And I can’t get out.
I stare at my arms. These arms. They’re not mine, but I’m wearing them. They’re thick and muscular and covered in hair. The veins run like rope down the insides.
I squeeze my eyes shut for the hundredth time, hoping that when I open them, I’ll look down and see my own thin arms. My own delicate veins.
I don’t.
Oh, God, do I need help. I need help. Now.
I stand and my head spins. Grabbing onto the desk, I wait for the dizziness to pass. Wait for my head to clear. It doesn’t happen.
I look from the desk to the bed to the floor to the walls and see where I am. Clarity won’t come. Can’t come. Because I’m not where I’m supposed to be.
My eyes travel to the mirror and the face staring back in terror. “Please,” I say. The face says it back, but sloppily. Like a drunk. “Please,” I beg again. “Where are you?” This time the words feel formed. This time my lips, his lips, work the way I expect them to. Or close to it.
But there’s no response.
I lift a hand. Take a step. My movements are staccato. Jerky. Clumsy. Like electrodes are flexing these muscles. Not me. Everything about this body is heavy and long. I take another step forward and it’s smoother, but I’m not used to the bulk of this body.
And I don’t want to get used to it.
I want out. Of him. Of here.

Excerpt from Untethered by Katie Hayoz
Chapter Nineteen
A Memory: Stupid Girls

The summer we were ten years old, Cassie and I held our fingers over my mother’s biggest, shiniest knife and looked into each other’s eyes.
“Ready?” Cassie asked. Her eyes shone. She dragged her front teeth across the plump cushion of her bottom lip.
The knife was her idea, not mine. I would have gone with a needle.
But a few hours earlier Cassie had come over to my place with tears in her eyes, upset about her parents drinking. As usual.
There was never any violence. Never anything to get too freaked out about. But sometimes it wore her out. Like this time. This time she wilted against the back of the couch and whispered, “They barely notice I’m there.”
I laced my fingers in hers. We sat a long time, dangling our flip-flops from our toes, the too-sweet smell of honeysuckle coming in from the open windows.
Suddenly, Cassie sat up straight. Her left flip-flop dropped to the floor. “You’re my best friend, right?”
“Yeah.”
“We’ve been through everything together.”
We had. From what everyone called my ‘fainting spells’, to getting our pants pulled down by the neighborhood boys, to an attempt at running away, to living through Sam’s practical jokes. And more.
“And we’ll be friends forever? We’ll always be able to count on each other, right?” Cassie spoke quickly now, her grip on my hand getting tighter.
Her intensity wasn’t exactly scaring me, but it did make me squirm just a little. “Forever.”
She narrowed her green eyes at me. “Prove it.”
So it came down to this: An extremely sharp knife and an oath to always be best friends. Which is why we were standing there, in my kitchen, my mom’s cutlery in our hands and why Cassie’s face was flushed with satisfaction and mine with fear.
“The oath,” Cassie prompted. We said it together, our two voices melding into one:

Blood Sisters, blood sisters as long as we live. Always together. We always forgive.
Best friends forever, best friends for life. As proof we share our blood with this knife.

“On the count of three,” Cassie said.
“Uhhh ... ”
“You can’t hesitate, Sylvie. If you hesitate that means you don’t take it seriously.” She fixed me a look that managed to be both demanding and pleading at the same time.
Where we gripped the handle, my palm was slick with sweat.
She started to count: “One ... two ... three ...”
Both of us slid the pad of our index fingers down the blade at the same time.
The blood came first. Bright, bright blood. And then the sharp, stinging bolt of pain. The knife dropped to the tile floor with a loud clang. Cassie sucked in a huge breath. I stared at the red dripping onto my feet and cried out.
We’d been intending to rub our blood into each other’s cut. But before we could, I felt a prickle of fear and then nothing. Nothing at all.
Dizziness seized me as I hovered near a cobweb in the corner, watching as my mom ran into the kitchen and took control, her voice strange and surreal from where I was.
“What are you girls thinking?” she shrieked. “Do you know what kind of infections and diseases you can get from doing this kind of thing? You’re lucky you didn’t cut your fingers off!” From above I saw my body go limp, my head pitching forward and my legs buckling. “Oh, my Lord, Sylvie! Don’t faint!” When Mom thrust our hands under cold water, I came back to my body with a jerk. “Stay with me!” pleaded Mom as she shoved my raw and aching finger further under the rushing tap.
Mom cleaned our cuts and wrapped them in Barbie Band-Aids. It was only then that Cassie and I touched fingers. We hooked them around each other and squeezed, the pain from the fresh cut throbbing up to our elbows. But no fluids were shared, so officially we were just two kids with deep cuts. Not blood sisters.
Even so, we took that oath — Band-Aids or not we took it. “We’re blood sisters,” Cassie says even now, six years later. “No matter how mad we get, we have to forgive.”
Or do we?

My review

I found this book interesting and really easy to read, and fast too. I have not read many books with the astral projection ability, so really enjoyed that about it.
I didn’t really feel a connection with the main character Sylvie, she was really immature and so insecure and jealous, with too much angst for me.
I think the younger teens would enjoy this book a lot more than I did. I do like YA for the most part, but not as much when the characters are this immature.

But I did love the whole paranormal elements to the book. I think the writing was really good. The characters could have used a bit more depth to them, but overall not bad at all.

I do recommend this book. It’s just not one of my personal favorites.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

I received this book from the author for my honest review.
