Evanescent (The Countenance Trilogy #2) By Addison Moore Book Review plus teasers

by Addison Moore
Publication Date : April 10, 2013
Review for Book One

Young Adult Mature Situations/Language (More of a New Adult but others are Young Adult)

FYI, for those who never have read any of these books, including the Celesta series, they are all descendents of angels, Nephilim, and there are different factions, the Celestra is the most powerful and good, the Countenance being evil, and do awful things to the Celestra to steal their powers. This series is 2 years before the Celestra, but they all tie in, and you can read either series first.

Summary:

From the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author, Addison Moore

Sixteen-year-old Laken Stewart died last summer. Her resurrection at the hands of the Countenance hasn’t run smoothly. With the memory of her past life still firmly intact, Laken moves deeper into the Countenance organization in an effort to free her mother and sister from the deadly Celestra tunnels.

The love she feels for her boyfriend, Wesley, is compromised when gorgeous Cooper Flanders teams up with her in the fight to free their families. Old bonds are slowly severed as new ones are galvanized.
Wesley is sure that what he and Laken share is special but when it becomes apparent that she’s reading his mind, he’s determined to get the bottom of her true intentions. And one thing is for sure, the Celestra that’s giving her these powers is going to have to pay. Wesley’s love for Laken takes him to the dark places he never believed existed and what he discovers dismantles his world as he knows it.

My Review:

I loved this book, it’s a great continuation from the first, and this one ties in with the Celestra series very well. We even get a little from Skyla , Logan and Gage in this one too. I loved that!!

I really love seeing how much Laken has grown, and boy I just adore Cooper. I still do not like Wes, dislike him even more. I think its great how determined Laken is to fight her own kind and help the Celestra, which makes her a hero in my eyes. Her and Cooper , who is Celestra himself as we know. I am anxious for book 3, as well as the final Celestra book, which I am sure will have some of what I read here on the meeting up with Skyla, Logan and Gage in it.

A must read for any fans of Addison Moore, if you have read and liked the Celestra series, then this is a must read series. It gives some useful information, and learning more about the Counts evil ways is interesting.

5 out of 5 stars, and LOVE the cover too!

Here are some teasers that I liked and wanted to share: (Cooper’s Point of view)
“Laken.” He picks up my hand and reels me in.Coop washes over me with that magnetizing stare. Those hypnotic grey lenses of his are having their way with me, I can tell. Heat rises from our bodies. I can feel the fire of this special brand of lust we share percolating into something out of control, something I might never want to stop.

And here is another one (Laken’s Point of View)
Coop leads us out in the direction of the voices until we come up on Flynn and that thing parading around as Hattie. Another girl pops up alongside them, deformed and bedraggled, and I gasp.
“Shit!” I bury my face into Coop’s chest at the sight of the decomposing girl. I steal a quick glance before slowly taking her in. She’s a bona fide, partially resurrected, once-upon-a-person about our age with clothes shredded to pieces from the natural wear and tear that only several decades could bring. Her dark hair is splayed out like cotton candy, and she looks as if mud baths were a part of her normal routine.
My natural inclination is to take Flynn and Coop by the hand and run the hell out of this demented den of the ungrateful dead, or kill both Hattie and her little monster before they kill us.
“She’s here’s to help.” Flynn holds out a hand in the event Coop is motivated to beat me to the slaughter.
“Which one?” I say it sharp, my voice resonating boldly through the woods. “Because neither of them is human.”
Flynn shakes his head. “This one.” He slaps his arm over the Spectator’s shoulder, and her collarbone spears out as a jagged white shard. “Dude.” Flynn backs up heavy with remorse. “So sorry.”

And one more teaser from Wes’s point of view (if you read the Celestra Series, this part will make more sense.)
“So who did this to you, man?” Coop slaps me gently on the back as he examines the stitches running up the side of my face.
“Logan and Gage Oliver.” Their names roll off my tongue, rough and hostile, like drilling a jackhammer.
“You sure they’re not from Rycroft?” Coop ticks his head back. His jaw redefines itself as if he’s good and pissed on my behalf.
I know Coop well enough to realize what he’s up to. He’s memorizing their names, running it through the super computer that functions as his memory bank to see if he recognizes them. We used to be friends Coop and me. Good ones.
I shake my head at the thought of losing what we had over my incessant jealousy. Coop would do anything to help me out, anyone out, for that matter—he’s just that nice.
“Coop”—I step in and take a breath—“you’re one of us. You’re like a brother. I don’t want there to be weirdness between us anymore. I miss tossing the ball on the field and hanging out after you ran a perfect game. I really appreciate your concern with my new face, but the guys who did this,” I pause and press out a dry smile, “they’re from a couple years in the future. It’s some bullshit I got mixed up in, and they’re just doing what they think is right. I’ll get ‘em back though.” I’ll be damned if I let those two ass-wipes get away with ever laying a hand on me.
“Get a hold of a supervising spirit, and lets get out there.” Coop crosses his arms like he’s ready and rearing to go.
“It’s not that easy. We need a willing Celestra.” I leave out the part about my supervising spirit being an ass who doesn’t believe in doing me any favors.
Coop doesn’t say anything.

Toxic (Celestra Part One and Two) Book Review

Toxic Part One (Celestra #7)

Blurb:
Skyla Messenger’s days are numbered.

With an angelic Faction War riding on her shoulders, and her mother’s newfound need to cozy with the enemy, Skyla also has to deal with the fact someone close to her has openly deceived her.

Skyla learns that sometimes in life, and in love, things aren’t always what they seem.

Toxic (Celestra #7 Part One) Review

I loved this book was so intense, and made me scared for my favorite characters. I just love Marshall. I know I can’t be the only one. I still am a total Logan fan. Gage, he is one I just can’t trust completely, though I do more after this book ended. I still like Marhall the best, he is one that never has lied to her, and always is thinking of what’s best for her (him, lol) and truly cares for Skyla. I had fun reading this book, and can’t wait to pick up Toxic part two. I had waited to read part one, until two was out so I can have it on hand. Now of course I will hate the wait for book 8.

If you already have not read this series, it’s a great one to start. I know its a lot of books, but they are fast easy reads. Meaning on the edge of your seat, and can’t put it down. Lol.  Start with book one Ethereal (it’s been free on Kindle at Amazon for awhile) and then go from there.

I loved how we got to see Cooper from Ephemeral in this book. I was NOT happy to see Wesley and what he does to Skyla. Let’s just say, I now know where he got his abilities in Ephemeral. (It’s the Countance series, new one; it ties in with this series)
I won’t say much about this, as it’s not good to spoil anything. Just saying this series just gets better and better.

5 out f 5 stars. Go get it, it’s great!!

Here is a small parts that I liked a lot, I really like Marshall for some reason,  not really anything to spoil In them:
“He found me just after midnight and told me about the stone, how the Pretty One and you were pinned with a blade. When I informed him there wasn’t a single thing I could do to alleviate your discomfort, he dropped to his knees. The look of grief on the poor boy’s face alerted me to something.”“What’s that?” I stare up at Marshall’s fiery eyes. Each their own unique shade of burgundy.“He feels just as strongly for you as I do.” Marshall focuses his gaze straight ahead. The fireplace roars to life without provocation. It brands the room in colors pink and gold. “I thought I understood love, knew the lay of the land—all of its inroads.” He sighs hard, landing a soft kiss to my temple. “I knew nothing of it until I met you, Skyla. You’ve redefined love for me. It’s sacred—anointed with the highest regard and blessing.”I’ve never heard words like that from Marshall. His placating sexuality, his wry wit and humor are all gone, nothing but the naked form of a man underneath, declaring his love for me. Our eyes lock. A strong magnetic pull lures me to his lips, and everything in me longs for a kiss.

Here is another Part with Skyla and Marshall, just had to share, as it had me laughing so hard. Lol
It’s me, Skyla. Do try to focus on the suitor at hand. Marshall suggests while pleasuring me with a kiss I won’t soon forget. So this is what it would be like to love Marshall—his bold affection—the intense wave of pleasure emanating from his being. It’s heaven like this with him. I could more than forget my troubles if only for a little while. Maybe what I really need is to spend a few good hours under Marshall’s lustful supervision, maybe that’s how I’ll repair my shattered heart. Marshall would never refute my efforts and make me wait until the end of the faction war like Logan. Marshall would take me right now on this vibrating donkey, if I let him.A vision appears, a blinding pain surges throughout my body, and I bear down hard.“You can do this,” a voice calls from behind. “Push, Skyla—push.”I turn ever so slightly and see the face of the man rooting me on—it’s Marshall panting out the beginnings of a smile as he looks down over me and the vision fades to black.I jump off him as though he were on fire.Dear God. I am going to get knocked up by my math teacher.

Toxic Part Two (Celestra, # 7.5)

Toxic Part 2 Review

Wow, this was a heck of a ride, of emotions, action, some blood and gore (you know, the facton war) we get some major sadness in this one, and great losses too.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but will say, its amazing, these books just get better and better, but you need to read them all or you would be so lost, it’s an ongoing story for sure.
Skyla has some decisions to make and sacrifices too. I felt so connected too.

I still love Marshall, just can’t help it. To me he is the one who has been there all along for Skyla.
I can’t believe what a huge cliffhanger this book ended one. What is that all about, man! I need the next book NOW.

We get some questions answered, but many more new questions too. I was brought to tears a few times, and was on an emotional rollercoaster as well. Also laughed outloud many times, as Skyla cracks me up, especially with Marshall.

I highly recommend this whole series, and will leave you with some great teasers. 5 out of 5 stars for sure.

(Skyla and Marshall)
“You, my dear kitten, are impossibly titillating.”I glance over at Marshall, lacking the energy to properly roll my eyes. I think the expression “one-track mind” was literally derived from him.“I don’t know what the hell you just said, but it sounds disastrous.” My eyelids sear themselves shut. Normally, I wouldn’t fight my body on the much-needed snooze-fest its trying to procure, but I feel rather exposed spread over the length of Marshall’s couch and he’s gearing up to pounce. I can feel it.

And  this in same scene page later (Skyla and Marshall)
Marshall gazes down at me with a content look on his face. I reach up and touch my hand to his cheek.“You really are a good listener, you know that?”He loses himself while grazing over my body with those sun-scorched eyes, so I place my hand over his to listen in on his private musings. Usually, he can throw them at me at a distance, which is his way of showing off his Sector prowess, but for now, he’s lost in lust, too far gone to throw anything coherent my way. My mouth desires to trace out the landscape of her every curve. I crave to have her, right down to her tiny beautiful feet. How I yearn for the moment she graces my chambers night after luscious night with all of the affection we can afford. We’ll charge the air with our ferocity. I can almost feel her skin burning against mine, the singe of her thighs smoothing over me as I make her my wife with a pronounced finality. And there’s that.“I can hear you,” I say.A smile rides up his cheek. “Though the deep drink of our love tarry—wait for it.”

(Skyla and Marshall)
“You know…” I readjust my neck over his lap. “Sometimes I feel as if I’m all alone.”“You have me.” His serious eyes penetrate mine. “For the rest of your days, I will be here for you—someone to trust, to lean on—to have and to hold from this day on.”Marshall is a thing of beauty both inside and out. I reach up and touch my fingers to his lips. Somebody is going to be very lucky to love him fully one day.“Those sounded an awful lot like wedding vows,” I whisper.“You will be everything to me, Skyla. A lover…” He kisses a finger. “A friend…” He kisses the tip of another. “A spouse…” He pushes my finger into his hot mouth and I pluck it out. “Where shall we spend our honeymoon?” He goes right there without provocation.

(Skyla, Logan, and Gage)
A pair of arms circle around my waist, a kiss is dropped on my cheek from behind. It can’t be Marshall because I don’t feel like I’ve been assaulted by a human vibrator. It feels genuine, born of love and wanting, a hint of the future locked in its warmth.Logan appears in front of me and waves a pair of condoms in the air.“Ambitious,” I say.“House special.” A not-so-guilty smile blooms on his face.Gage flicks the prophylactics away before holding up a pair of his own with a lust-born grin.“So what are you guys going to do with them?” I ask, slightly perturbed that both Olivers dare approach me with glorified water balloons, and on this the very same eve.

Ephemeral by Addison Moore + Expert & Book Review

Ephemeral (The Countenance #1)
By Addison Moore
Publisher: Amazon Digital Services
Publication Date:  September 12, 2012

*Young Adult/ Mature Situations

The last thing Laken Stewart remembers is the oncoming car, then bursting through the windshield.

Two months dissolve without her knowledge and she finds herself in unfamiliar surroundings with strangers who not only profess to know her but insist she’s someone else entirely.

Laken discovers her long dead boyfriend, Wesley, has been thrown into this alternate world as well. He is quick to inform her she suffered a horrible fall and that her memory hasn’t fully returned. According to Wesley the other life she had—her name, her family, they were simply a side effect of her brain trauma.

In her quest for answers she meets Cooper Flanders, the son of her psychiatrist who readily believes every word she says.

Laken Stewart knows she died on that hot July afternoon, but now she’s alive—or is she?

My Review:

Wow, this book was awesome, non-stop excitement and some witty funny parts too. For those who have not read the Celestra series by Addison Moore, I recommend you get on it, but you do not have to read them before this one, But Addison did say, characters from this book, will be showing Up in the next Celestra book Toxic, so those who read and enjoy the Celestra books, read this one before Toxic is out.

Ok, so I will do my best to keep this spoiler free. I know there are many who had not read the Celestra series, so I will give a vague rundown of who and what the Celestra are.
We have several factions of angels,(Nephilim)  who live among us, most have very diluted blood of the angels, but some are pure. Now in the Celestra series, the main character there, Skyla, is as pure as you can get of the Celestra factions, and there is a war between the factions. Countenance is another faction, now that’s what our main character in Ephemeral is.

Now, I went into this book, thinking I would have to accept and like the Countenance now (they are evil bloodsucking creeps, and I mean that literally, they like to drink the blood of the Celestra, as it’s the only way they can get the powers of the Celestra, like time travel, mind reading, etc.) We have other factions, won’t get into them all, but the Sectors are on Celestra’s side (and if you’re up on those books, that’s what yummy Marshall is, a Sector) it seems besides the Celestra, the Sectors are the most powerful. Countenance just wish they were, but aren’t.  There is the Levato, which is a smaller faction, also sides with Celsetra. Countenance has the Fems on their sides and the ones I only learned of in this book, called the Spectators, they are gross zombie like Counts, the failed resurrection attempts. Yuck.

So, now back to this story, Laken, wakes up in a strange forest, with the last memory being flying through the windshield in a car accident. But she is not in Kansas anymore, she finds she is in Ephemeral, Connecticut, and has no idea how she gets there.
Well, these Counts (or whoever is pulling the strings, not sure) try to create her a whole new set of memories, but she still remembers her old (real) life in Kansas, she is confused , especially when she sees her brother and Wes, the love of her life, alive and well, except they died 2 years ago in a lake drowning, so this is where they went, but they have no memory of her in that life, just some false memories, and it’s frustrating for her. No one believes her. Until Cooper, he is the only one who does.

I do not want to say much more. But will say, it’s extremely exciting, and I just love Cooper, he is the real deal. I also am super thrilled that Laken, who’s blood is a Count (Countenance) hates what they stand for as much as I do, so yay, she’s a rebel, and plans to infiltrate their inner circle to find her Kansas sister and mom (who she finds out something interesting about) and wants to get her old life back. Her heart is pulled between Wesley and Cooper, Wes is the guy she was with in Kansas and was heart broken when he “died” but this new Wes is not anything like the old Wes, he is brainwashed, she wants the old Wes back. Then we have sweet Cooper who is NOT brainwashed, and is helping her all he can. He even can help her get some of them Celestra powers she needs to beat these Counts at their own game.

Here is a sweet scene between Cooper and Laken:

Cooper and all of his mystery—he blessed me with his lips, and now I need a little bit more. This is just a dream and strange things happen in dreams that are generally out of your control.
He pushes in and kisses me again, slow at first then with a burst of trembling passion. His soft lips, his skin pressed against mine—there’s something achingly pure about kissing Cooper. An underlying sadness emanates from the two of us, lets me know this is more than just some fantasy. An alarm rails inside me and assures me this can never be.

Its super exciting, and I absolutely can’t wait for the next book, called Evanescent (The Countenance 2) Love Addison and her great vocabulary,  (Evanescent means: soon passing out of sight, memory, or existence; quickly fading or disappearing.)

I highly recommend this book. You can even get the first book in the Celestra series free right now (ebook) I also have them all that I can loan out to one person on Kindle (Amazon allows only to do this once) Called Ethereal (Celestra Book 1) Free Here at Amazon

Note: This book is for mature readers only. It’s YA with Mature situations.

This series is getting really exciting with this 2nd installment of the Celestra series. We get some time travel with this one, some interesting things come about in this one. Some questions arise about her future with Logan. And these feelings she has for Gage. All very confusing.

It will keep you on the edge of your seat and up at all hours of the night to finish reading it.

I highly recommend this book, but make sure to read the first one then this, and look for the rest in the series.
