Sink or Swim
By Jamie Canosa

Blurb:
There are some things you just can't walk away from.

When sleeping in vacant warehouses and dark alleys becomes preferable to living at home, something is seriously wrong. But when word reaches Allie that her mother is facing a life threatening illness, she has no choice but to return to the place of nightmares. Leaving wasn't a choice, it was a necessity, and if returning hadn't been equally necessary, Allie never would have set foot back inside that hell-hole.

Dean is no stranger to hardship, but the day Allie walked out of his life, taking his heart right along with her, was hands-down the most frustrating. Six months later, she's back and Dean refuses to rest until he figures out exactly what the hell happened.

Now, Allie's drowning. Drowning in lies. Drowning in the truth. Drowning in pain, and anger, and fear. But there comes a time when every drowning person must decide whether they will . . . Sink or Swim?

Teaser:
“You have no idea…” I ran out of words at that point. Her being this close after so long was the sweetest kind of torture. Each breath she took, I felt in every part of my body, in some areas more than others. Really inappropriate, but she always had a powerful hold over me. Common sense jumped out the window.

His golden eyes locked on hers with such intensity it stole her breath. “I would never want to hurt you.” Cupping her face, he rubbed his thumb along her unmarked cheek. “I could never hurt you. If anything ever happened to you, I fear I will be trapped on the Edge forever.” Leaning in, he lightly kissed her bruise. “I think of you constantly.” He kissed her forehead. “Always.” Then with the lightest touch, he kissed her lips.

Her vision blurred, going white with nausea as the ship surged into warp. The fire that she'd been able to contain in her arm now swallowed her completely. Note: If someone knows about coding and all that for blogger, I would love some advice, I need to get rid of the old signature at bottom of all my post, the blue one, I made a new matching one, that's above it, I used the CSS way to add the new one, but can't find out how to get rid of the old one. I think I added that one in the edit HTML area, and usually you click expand widgets or whatever but now, blogger changed all of that, and there is not such button. Now I am lost to get the ugly extra signature off. Please anyone who knows, I beg for help, lol. Trying to clean up my blog of clutter and that is an eyesore to me.

thanks

The Return by Nicole R. Taylor ~ 5 Star Review ~ Paranormal Romance

The Return (The Witch Hunter Saga #2)
by Nicole R. Taylor

I've wandered my afterlife believing that I was the monster my maker told me I was. It was the only thing I knew. Not even my brother, Sam, could convince me otherwise.

Not until her. Not until Aya. She walked into my life like a hurricane of destruction and nothing would ever be the same again. None of us could have known what would happen next. What fate had in store...
I finally grew a heart, only to have it ripped out.

Now, I will stop at nothing for revenge.

Zac's afterlife is just going from bad to worse. He grew a heart only to have it torn out by the founding vampire, Arturius.

Nobody is sure what he wants, but Zac doesn't want to know. He's more interested in finding a way to end him for good. But, it might just be that he's after Gabby, who's harbouring a secret of her own, one that Arturius would do anything for.

Aya's past will come back to haunt Zac in ways he never thought possible and what he finds out will alter everything he ever knew about her. He will uncover a deadly secret that should have remained buried. A secret Aya has fought to keep for thousands of years. One she has killed for.
In the end, who's secrets will betray them to the one man who wants them all dead? Aya's or Zac's?

They'll need to figure it out sooner rather than later, because death is not an option.

Wow! Just wow! Its hard to put into words how much I love this series, and am very anxious for book 3, Shadows Sons. I can’t wait till its out.

I really loved the twists and turns in this books, and some great surprises too. I wont be telling you any spoilers though, you need to read it yourself.
I know I was so shocked at the end of the first book, The Witch Hunter, and was so anxious to read this one to see what happens, as I did not want o accept the ending of that book, at all!

I did get a bit bored only in a few parts where the back-story got to be a bit much for me. Especially all the war talk with Zac’s story, I was not as interested in that part, but do see how it was important, but not sure if maybe it should have been a bit less maybe?

Other than those bits that I didn’t really care for, I overall loved the book. It was well written as usual, and it was really hard to put down.

I highly recommend this series to all the paranormal romance lovers out there, the unique twist on these vampires and witches was great.

5 out of 5 stars for me. And the cover is great too.

I was provided a copy of this book from the author for my honest review.

This review is also at Goodreads, here, and Amazon, here

CHAPTER ONE

Lake District, United Kingdom
Autumn, 43AD

Aeriaya was the last daughter of the stars to walk the earth.
The last of the race known as the Celestines. She was twenty five of what the humans called years and she alone held the weight of an impossible responsibility on her shoulders. She was to be the last caretaker of the earth.

Sunlight filtered through the dense canopy of the forest, casting its dappled fingers through the deep green grass below. It was an abnormally warm day, the earth still damp from the morning mist, thousands of tiny dewdrops clinging to moss covered trees.

Aeriaya wandered through the wood, her long pale fingers playing through the light, savoring the small points of warmth. Coming to a clearing she smiled, her long silver hair blowing across her face in the sudden breeze. The sun had coaxed the little field to come alive with small white flowers, their yellow centers bright and happy. Pulling her hair back into place, she walked out into the sunlight, beginning to gather as many of the blossoms as she could carry. She knew that her mother would love them, they were simple yet stunning.

Catching a glimpse of a figure approaching her from the side she shook her head. She wasn't meant to be out walking today, but she needed the peace of the forest, if only for an hour or two. Smiling, she turned, expecting to see her brother emerge from the forest, come to take her home. He had a habit of following her and playing tricks when she least expected it. Instead, she gasped as she caught sight of a menacing figure in the tree line, shadowed by the forest around him.

Dropping the flowers in surprise, she took a hesitant step back. He was covered head to foot in black heavy linen and leather clothing, not an inch of skin showing. A large hood had been pulled low over his eyes, shielding his face from the sunlight. She took a few steps back, fear creeping into her heart, knowing that if she ran, she wouldn't be able to escape.

A satisfied smirk pulled at his lips as he watched her back away. "Celestine," he whispered.

How did he get here? He shouldn't have been able to find the clearing, let alone get into the forest. She should have sensed his approach, but even now, it was as if she were alone. He was not one of them, neither was he human. He was... dead?

Aeriaya stood frozen in fear, not able to tear her gaze away from him. Something was terribly wrong.

Before she could react, the man lunged forward, faster than she thought possible, and grasped her around the waist, flinging her over his shoulder. Looking within herself, she sought the coil of power that was the center of her being. Her parents always taught her to use it for good, that to kill and destroy was wrong. Surely this time was different? She let her power wash over her, but nothing happened. It sputtered and died, leaving her empty.

"No!" she cried, beating her fists against the man's shoulder. It couldn't be. "No!" Letting out a blood-curdling scream, she beat her fists harder against his back, trying to free herself, but his grip was like iron. He was so strong, her fists and raking fingernails had no effect on him. Even when she tried to bite and kick, he continued to run.

The forest grew dark as he took her further and further away from her home, the air colder and more desolate. She pleaded with the man to let her go, but he wouldn't respond, instead running faster, never seeming to tire.

She didn't know how much time had passed, but before long, she was dropped like a stone onto a hard floor, the air pushed from her lungs. Taking heaving gulps, she looked around wildly. She was in a dark stone room, surrounded by four men and one woman, but she couldn't sense their presence, either. They were dead, just like the man who had taken her.

Panic overtook her and she scrambled backwards, trying to get away from them, crashing into something hard. Looking up, she gasped as she realized she had collided with the man's legs. Jerking forward in horror, he laughed down at her, a satisfied smirk pulling at his lips.

There was a scraping sound as a heavy wooden door opened opposite and a woman walked into the room, closing it behind her with a dull thud that echoed off the walls. Looking around for the first time, she realized that the stone room wasn't just any room. The earth was all around her, she could feel it through the walls. The room was a dungeon.

The woman paused just inside the doorway for a moment, a look of triumph plastered on her face. She was tall and slim, fiery auburn hair that fell in waves over her shoulders and her heart beat in her chest.

Aeriaya regarded her warily as she walked forward and surveyed her terrified form on the ground with hazel eyes. This woman was very much alive and very much a witch. This was all so very wrong. She must be one of the Five. And if that was true, then she had betrayed them all. Just by looking at her, she could tell the witch had created the dead creatures that stood around her. The power she had been granted had been corrupted.

"Well done, Regulus," the woman caressed the man's face with a delicate hand. The man who had taken her from the forest. "Very well done."
"Who are you?" Her musical voice sounded misplaced in their dark surrounds. "What do you want?"
"Oh, forgive me," she exclaimed. "Let me introduce you to my family. Regulus you have already met on such intimate terms. This is my lovely daughter, Octavia. And my sons, Marcus, Titus, Caius and Arturius. And I, I am Katrin."
She knew that name. She was one of the Five.
"What have you done?" she whispered, still cowering on the floor.
"They're dead," Katrin laughed. "They're vampires. The creatures of myth, brought alive by my will. Bound to the night, slaves to blood." She gestured to the six vampires, who began to move forward.

One of the men grabbed her roughly around the waist and hauled her up, holding her lithe form in place. One by one, the vampires came forward and dragged her head to the side and sunk their fangs into the soft skin of her neck, consuming her blood. At first she tried to fight, but each burning tear into her jugular made her limbs heavier.

Why were they doing this to her? She'd never done anything to hurt anyone. Was she to die?

Once they had all drank, she was let go, the cell door slammed closed and locked. Alone in the darkness, she sunk to the floor and sobbed, her tears dripping into the hard dirt floor.

by Tracy Deebs

Tempest Maguire wants nothing more than to surf the killer waves near her California home; continue her steady relationship with her boyfriend, Mark; and take care of her brothers and surfer dad. But Tempest is half mermaid, and as her seventeenth birthday approaches, she will have to decide whether to remain on land or give herself to the ocean like her mother. The pull of the water becomes as insistent as her attraction to Kai, a gorgeous surfer whose uncanny abilities hint at an otherworldly identity as well. And when Tempest does finally give in to the water's temptation and enters a fantastical underwater world, she finds that a larger destiny awaits her-and that the entire ocean's future hangs in the balance.

Tempest Unleashed (Tempest #2)

by Tracy Deebs

Tempest Maguire is happy with her decision to embrace her mermaid nature and live among her mother’s clan within the ocean’s depths. Even though training to one day ascend the throne for the aging mermaid queen is rigorous, she finds refuge in the arms of Kona, the selkie who first opened her up to her mermaid side. But when word comes that one of her brothers has been gravely injured on land, Tempest immediately rushes to his side—which also brings her back to her old flame, Mark. And in her absence, a deadly battle begins raging at the hands of Tempest’s old nemesis, the sea witch Tiamat. As the dangerous war erupts, Tempest’s two loves—Kona and Mark, sea and land—will collide for the first time, both to protect her and to force her to choose.

Tempest Revealed (Tempest #3)

Living under the sea and rebuilding Coral Straits is grueling work, while being back home reminds her of everyone she loves and misses. But when her old flame Kona arrives bearing news that Hailana has died and Tempest is now officially merQueen, she returns permanently to Coral Straits, even though it devastates her family and rips her apart from Mark.

Once there, she discovers that an old enemy has resurfaced, hell-bent on taking over her throne... with or without her. As Tempest prepares for her final showdown against Tiamat and anyone who stands with her, she must decide what - and who - is really important to her. Because there will be few survivors in the ultimate sea battle that is brewing - and Tempest isn't sure she will be one of them.

The Prelude by KaSonndra Leigh- Release Day Blitz - New Adult Contemporary Romance

The Prelude - Release Blitz
By KaSonndra Leigh
New Adult / Contemporary Romance
Date to be Published: 7/3/2013

"The Prelude is the part of a song that pulls you in, hypnotizing you with beauty."

After finishing design school six months ago, Erin Angelo left her tragic past behind in the States and started a new life in Milan, Italy. Burying the grief, silencing her demons, and living a life without any real attachments has worked well for her so far. But when Erin secures her first real job as a budding clothing designer, her controlled world is shaken to its core by the mysteriously sexy director of the local symphony.

Alek Dostov is a man who knows what he wants and how to get it. He's successful, hot, the son of a millionaire, and women all over the world flock to see one of his performances. For Alek, Erin represents the ultimate challenge: sexy, smart, and unaffected by his charms...or so she thinks. Just like Erin, Alek avoids attachments that leave him emotionally vulnerable. But unlike Erin, his pursuit of all things pleasurable is ruthless.

Knowing how wary they both are concerning any kind of committed relationship, Alek finds a way to pursue Erin, satisfying the intense attraction between them without sacrificing the freedom they both enjoy. Sometimes the deepest passion brings out the darkest emotions. And Erin finds herself completely unprepared for the forbidden world of the young maestro and his truths and even his secrets, as she struggles to deal with her own.

Music, passion, betrayal and forbidden love spun together in one of the most romantic cities in the world.

**This novel contains intense sexual situations and mature language. It is intended for an audience at 18+ years of age.**

EXCERPT

Alek is used to getting his way with women.  I probably let him go a little further than I should've done the night of the showing; but hell, I am human and my body has needs. Okay, so we know he has confidence down, and he's damn good with his hands.
But what about the rest of his package?
Can he move that sexy body of his the way I suspect he can?
Well, I guess we'll find out. Choosing one of Milan’s largest nightclubs turns out to be a great idea according to Alek. I’m surprised, but then, not really. There’s this surreal battle going on between us. You know the kind, the type where either one or the both of us will give in to whatever this thing is that we’re feeling for each other. And not even the heated atmosphere of the wildest and most controversial club in Milan can do a thing to hinder the outcome.
“You’ll beg me to kiss you before it’s all said and done,” he told me a few nights ago.
“We’ll see who begs who first, won’t we, Mr. Sexy as Hell?” I lead him to the center of the dance floor. The beat is a thumping disco tune that drives through every part of my body. It is so not helping me to gain the lead in this battle. I turn around, lift my arms and make the first move. “Show me what you got, Mr. Maestro.”
“We’re on, Erin Angelo.”
So arrogant. So sexy. Dangerous is the word I think I’m looking for and hooked is the one I’ll do anything to avoid. Alek moves close to me, his body grinding against my hips. He’s in no way shy about letting me feel how hard he has become. I’m instantly taken aback to that place from a week or so ago, the one where he gave me an orgasm that turned me into a puddle of ooze. Moving back, he takes my hand, laces his fingers with mine and begins moving to the beat.
Holy hell. I’m so in trouble. A guy who can dance like this… Let me repeat it for you, you’re so in trouble, Angelo.
Part of me feels all bubbly inside while the other half is terrified because now Alek’s arms have circled my body. We’re grinding and jerking to a beat that I swear was created just for sex. The words “bang, bang, shot you dead” blast through the speakers. It’s a tune called “Gang Bang” where the singer essentially says she killed her lover because she’s afraid of falling for him, but she used sex instead of a gun to do it. The meaning behind the lyrics hits too close to home to even think about.
The club spins. This man intoxicates me. Everything about him oozes sex. He’s passing the damn can-he-move test and shooting me dead with desire at the same time.

I was born in the race-car city of Charlotte, NC, and now live in the City of Alchemy and Medicine, NC, when I’m not hanging out in Bardonia (Lost Immortals). Most of my characters are based on people that I’ve met throughout my travels and adventures. People tend to stop and start conversations with me as if I’ve known them my entire life. Does this freak me out? Not really. My mom says that one day I’ll get kidnapped by one of them. I told her that if it weren’t for these lovely people then I wouldn’t be able to create the stories that I do.

Some other common tidbits…hmm. I’ve watched the movie Under the Tuscan Sun almost 200 times. Seriously, the way I see it is if I keep watching it enough, then suddenly the house that Diane Lane lives in will magically appear in my backyard. I know. I have a huge imagination!

Excerpt:

Anya watched Sebastian from the corner of her eye as he went to work cleaning away the blood. He was focused and intent on his task, but couldn't seem to stop touching her in little ways. Softly brushing her hair, her shoulder, her hip. Was he checking her for further injuries? It seemed more intimate than that. It was almost as if he didn't even realize he was doing it.

His tenderness with her was astonishing. While he was focused on wiping the blood from her cut, Anya allowed herself to study him closer. He seemed calm now, though his energy was still erratic.

When he had first returned, still resembling the monster, it had terrified her. He'd still been enraged, much more so, it seemed. And not for the first time, she'd thought he might hurt her.

But when his eyes had found hers, he'd visibly relaxed, instantly morphing back into the Bastian she recognized.

With a gentleness contradictory to the man standing before her, he cleaned her wound. By his soft pats and concerned looks, she knew now that he would never hurt her. She felt silly for ever thinking otherwise. He'd shown her nothing but kindness from the beginning.

“You're not frightened of me anymore?” he asked without averting his gaze from the cut on her cheek.

He was almost completely back to normal now. His horns were returning to their original dark black, and his fangs had receded. Thinking back to his other form, she couldn't muster the terror it had inspired in the first place. “No,” she said simply.

“So easily?”

“You make it hard to fear you, Sebastian, when you treat me the way you do.”

“And how's that then?”

“Like you would never hurt me, no matter how angry you are, or how much you might want to.”

With words so sweet, Anya couldn't help but lean into him. This wasn't the demanding kiss from before. This was soft, smooth, tender. This time he allowed her to explore him at her leisure. His lips were soft and warm, molded to hers, and she caressed them.

Her second real kiss ever was turning out to be the most erotic experience of her life. Sebastian was watching her with his liquid gold eyes, filled with restrained lust as he let her place soft kisses on him.

My Review

Dang, was this a great book! It had all the elements that I like in a book, it had the must have paranormal element, with some sci-fi mixed in, meaning they are in space, and there is other species too, the Demons in this book are more of another race from another planet, instead of the demons and angels type you would normally think of.

It was a little more naughty than I am comfortable reading, but I just skim over those parts, lol. I know I am weird, lol. I loved the story, so kept reading anyway. I know many out there like the major steam in their books, so if you like the suspense and mystery mixed with major hot guys (ok demons, but the look like humans, except one small part I won’t mention)

I really connected with the characters. I felt really bad for Anya and the life she lived for so long.  I was so glad that she was able to grow into a strong person, and not be the victim anymore.

I liked Sebastian for the most part, he was a demon of course and his ways are different than that of a human, so had to take that into consideration. I actually love the different perspectives we get in this book, its not written in the first person, so this helps with that. I did have to get used to it, but it didn’t take me very long at all.

I am defiantly a fan for sure, and will continue with this series, and I am so happy to see that the next several books are already out, yay, as I hate waiting on books, lol

I did not even read any summary’s or anything on the next books. I wanted to write this review first, then I will buy the next one as soon as I am able
.
I also loved the cover, and I am big on covers, if its poorly done, or doesn’t match what you read (you know, wrong hair color, stuff like that) then I do not usually even pick them up to read. Most books I read, first attract me to them by the cover. Yes, I know is should not judge the book by the cover, but I just can’t help it.

Can’t wait to read Demon Slave, Demon Retribution, and Demon Untamed.

I highly recommend this book to adults due to the mature content.

5 out of 5 stars for me.

I received this book from the author for my honest review.

Guest Post

I’m a reader at heart, and I love devouring new romance novels, but there are so many to choose from and it can be daunting to sift through all the options. Generally, what I read is also what I like to write. Below are a 8 of my romance must haves.

Cover Art
I know it shouldn’t affect my decision, but it does. If the cover looks bad to me, it makes me wonder if the story is lacking as well. Cover art also influences the way I picture the lead characters. Too many books show blonds on the cover, when the heroine is actually brunet, or vice versa. So as I read, my mind wars with my preconceptions. It’s bothersome.

Interesting Story Line
Some story lines are getting old for me. Cop and detective stories, for one. They do nothing for me these days.

Must Be a Series
Okay, not always, but I search for books that are in a series because I love to get totally dragged into the lives of all the characters. An author can make me eager for the next installment is my drug of choice.

Removed From Reality
Currently, and this could change any day, I have no interest in stories that could be based in reality. Boring dramas or detective stories are the worst for me. I’m not interested in a long story about some rebel cop chasing an insane killer while trying to keep his new lady partner at arm’s length. Blech. Give me some witches.

Alpha Males
I need hot alpha males with attitude, a slight sense of honor, and a wicked dark side. Oh yeah, pack me up some of that to go. ‘nuf said.

Great Female Lead
I also need a smart witty female who can challenge the hero and drive him a little nuts at the same time. Females are probably the most difficult to write for me. Their emotions are much more complex and convoluted than the typical guy. To that, you may say, “But my guy has really deep thoughts…” No he doesn’t. He thinks about food, sex, work, and sleep. Not always in that order. Any deep thoughts he comes up with are derived from the desire to get one of those four things accomplished.

That Brings Me to Sex
Don’t stiff me on the sex! I hate when the sexual tension gets built up to a fever pitch, only to receive one mild sex scene before the end of the book. I find this happens mostly in older books. These days, authors are getting a little bolder when it comes to sexing up their characters. Yet, at the same time, I don’t want sex scenes at the cost of story line.

Lastly, HEA
I haven’t come across too many romance books that don’t have a happy ever after ending. But then, I try to stay away from them. The exception is, of course, when a series ends in a cliffhanger, but sometimes that irritates me too.

So there you have it. My long list of requirements. Ha! Just try to please me, I dare you. LOL. As you can guess, I don’t always find what I’m looking for, but the hunt is fun anyway. Happy reading!
